The first annual Coon Creek Canoe Race on August 24, 2019 was a fun event and successful in raising awareness of continuing flood management challenges. We are very grateful to our grant sponsors who contributed greatly to the success of the canoe race and festival.
The Wisconsin Department of Tourism awarded the Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant to the Coon Valley Business Association that collaborated with several local organizations from Coon Valley and Chaseburg to produce the Coon Creek Canoe Race and Festival. Those organizations are: Coon Valley Business Association, Coon Valley Conservation Club, Coulee Track and Trail, Coon Valley American Legion Post 116, Coon Valley Lions, and the Chaseburg Snowtrailers Club. The JEM Grant provided the funding necessary to advertise in a widely to attract tourism to our area. This advertising is central to our first year’s success and we are very grateful for the support of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism.
The Vernon County Tourism Promotion and Economic Development Committee awarded the Vernon County Community Grant for the Coon Creek Canoe Race. This grant, critical to our first year’s success, provided the funding necessary to start this event to attract tourism and promote economic development in our area. We are very grateful to the Vernon County Tourism Promotion and Economic Development Committee and the Ho Chunk Nation for their support.
The Gundersen Health System awarded a Gundersen Community Grant for the Coon Creek Canoe Race. This grant provided the funding necessary for safety and supplies so our participants could enjoy a healthy, outdoor activity, bringing hope and fun to communities faced with flood management. We are very appreciative of the support from the Gundersen Health System for our area.
